On one of my first dates with Jon, I asked him what he thought of his mother.  I figured if I’m going to get his mother projections, I should know what I’m up against.  He told me his mother was great: intelligent and caring.  When I met her, I found she was exactly that.

On one visit, Olive was driving me to the airport when she said, “I think if we had met under different circumstances, you and I would’ve been good friends.”  I was very flattered that she would think this, but as the years have gone on, I’m grateful that the circumstances were not different, because we are more than good friends – she has become my second mother and that is much more special to me.  I feel lucky that I got her by marrying her son.
